This is my final goodby to you. The idea that we will meet again in some future paradise is too fantastic for me to believe.
I am very positive in my own mind that each of us has but one conscious life and we are to get the most pleasure and satisfaction out of it.

We must learn to get along and cooperate with other people.

I believe the most fundamental rule that civilization has developed, is the idea of treating others as you would want them to treat you.

Although this was one of the oldJewish Commandments, it was also taught by other civilizations, thousands of years before. I have tried most of my life to live by that rule. I can recommend no better rule for you.

December 28, 1939 -- A talk to Rayburn

Well, I just feel like I'd like to talk to you Rayburn and some way I just feel that you know about us here in this life and think how much better off you are than we are here. You don;t have to hear of all the awfulness and suffering among the people in the Orient.

Well, I just pray that the Kingdom of God comes soon and our Lord will keep us faithful till our Lord comes for his own.

And Rayburn, I do miss you so much & I would have been willing to care for you for years if I could have kept you, but our Heavenly Father had compassion on you & took you from us.

Perhaps he has work for you in the Glory House. And how well do I remember 7 years ago this morning when you summons came & I just felt like I could go too for I felt my work was done then. I don't understand, I guess my Lord wasn't ready to take me then.

So here I am yet plodding along. I have nothing much to do but try to comfort & cheer the lonely shut-ins & I do enjoy going to see all such.

If I can take a little sunshine and cheer into their lonely lives and some of them haven't such good, kind and thoughtful children as ours are, Rayburn.

I know how you worried about leaving me with not much left for me to live on. But I want you to know I'm getting along alright financially and I enjoy it here, where I can attend Church. I think sometimes of the hardships & poor choices we made for the Lords work, but I am thankful we were willing to do what we could, tho' not as much as lots of people but it is all over now and how I do hope our Children will be more serious in our Lord's work.

I feel people these days do not realize the great work there is to do before the Savior Comes.
